The Beer Cabinet was the result of two months residency program at AQB, Budapest, Hungary.
Every building has a personal memory comprised by the people who live in and by the activities performed inside. A place without people is dead and a human that is isolated in an empty and dark room may become insane. The people's life is in constant changing, growing or decaying. Change is natural, being the most constant phenomenon that occurs. The world is having its own cycle, like the existence of the seasons. Everything happens under our eyes in every second. Everything has a start and an end.
The buildings are behaving the same. They are like a twin brother that feels all the pains and happy moments of his twin, the inhabitant of the building.
My project is linked with the former status of the house as an ex-brewery. The house that is today AQB has been transformed from a beer factory into studios for artists. In my installation-performance, I want to point out this relation between individuals and space. The people that are working here restart an old forgotten space, reconstruct it and change it. This reconversion gives back life to a dead place.
The unique artist labels links the past status of the house with the present. The different brands of beer corresponding to each artist may seem strange and inappropriate at the first sight. I think that the strangeness and wonder is a feeling experienced by people that are living nearby. I suppose that they are wondering constantly what is going on inside and what is the meaning and the role of this place, where every time people go in and out. They must wonder what are they doing here exactly, when other people are working in factories producing palpable goods? AQB is like an island on a land with factories that are still working. My project speaks about this uncertain feeling. The act of serving beer strengthens this confusion. This is like an invitation of meeting art through a very common gesture, drinking beer. You can have a unique beer glass from witch you can meet and ''taste'' the every single artist that is exhibiting. This can be an ironical approach, or maybe not.
