Fossil, a project commissioned by the Anca Poterasu Gallery in Bucharest had no fixed initial concept, instead the concept emerged as an obvious aura of the space that was to shelter the exhibition and through the intense collaboration with other four artists. The gallery organized an open call for young artists for a joint project under the name Five in a house. My intervention followed two directions: mixed media (painting over photography) and object. I was particularly interested in how different mediums could relate, for example how two-dimensional and three-dimensional mediums can enter a dialogue highlighting each other and how they could form one cohesive body of work. How is the meaning transformed when different ways of expression speak to each other? The house which hosted the exhibition was an old house, which witnessed many lives. Every single person that the house sheltered had a personal story to tell. The white objects singularized in space through colour obliteration were fossils of the past, silent witnesses of the memories breathing through the walls. The paintings over photography are scanning and bringing the objects into the present.
